Former Pro Bowl linebacker Shawne Merriman was released from a hospital Monday morning, a day after being rushed in because of a reported drug overdose.
Merriman, who starred for the San Diego Chargers, was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Sunday about 9:30 p.m.
The Los Angeles Times reported that he overdosed on a combination of drugs and alcohol.
Deadspin later reported that Merriman was active on Twitter about four hours after he was taken to the hospital.
Merriman was released from the hospital Monday morning, according to NFL.com.
Details are cloudy, but Merriman was reportedly partying at The Colony, a night club in Hollywood.
Merriman, 29, retired in March after an eight-year career that included three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2005-07. He played for the Chargers (2005-10) and Buffalo Bills (2010-12).
