Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy is endorsing Michael Vick as the best candidate for the starting quarterback job with the Philadelphia Eagles.
McCoy seemed to mince few words when asked by NJ.com in an interview who new coach Chip Kelly should go with behind center next season.
“I think Michael Vick is the starting quarterback,” McCoy said.
McCoy believes Vick is highly motivated to show he should get the nod over Nick Foles, who finished the season as the starter after Vick was sidelined last season with a concussion. McCoy has worked out with Vick during the offseason and says he looks good at age 33.
“He’s got a lot to prove this year, but he’s ready to roll,” McCoy said. “He knows people are questioning if he can get it done, and he’s gonna prove this year he can.”
The Eagles re-signed Vick to a one-year contract after last season, which was not a good one for him. The injury-prone Vick was limited to 10 games in 2012 and passed for 2,362 yards and 12 touchdowns but threw 10 interceptions.
Vick’s versatility as a passer and runner would seem to be a fit for the up-tempo offense that Kelly used at Oregon. The Eagles also recently brought in Dennis Dixon, a quarterback with a similar style who played for Kelly at oregon, to compete for the job.
Rumors have circulated that the Eagles might consider trading Foles, who showed promise as a rookie last year. The Arizona Cardinals are one team that appears interested in the former University of Arizona quarterback.
