Mavericks sign Jenkins, Famous

The Dallas Mavericks have signed guard John Jenkins and forward Jarrid Famous, the team announced Friday.

Jenkins reportedly had agreed to a three-year deal Monday.

Jenkins was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks with the 23rd pick in the 2012 draft. As a rookie, he shot 45 percent from the field and 38 percent on 3-point attempts.

His second season was derailed by injuries. He played in only 24 games and had back surgery in February.

The 24-year-old is ticketed to be the backup for newly signed Wesley Matthews. Matthews, who ruptured his left Achilles tendon four months ago while a member of the Portland Trail Blazers, joined the Mavericks after signing a $70 million deal earlier this month.

Famous, 27, spent last season with the Iowa Energy and the Texas Legends in the NBA Development League.

He averaged 10.2 points and 6.8 rebounds in five games in the Las Vegas Summer League with the Washington Wizards.
