Marlins release INF Wigginton

The Miami Marlins released infielder Ty Wigginton on Tuesday, after he failed to make the team on a minor-league contract.

Wigginton hit just .147 in 24 spring training at-bats. He signed a minor-league deal with the club in January.

Wigginton was released by the St. Louis Cardinals last season after just 58 plate appearances into a two-year, $5 million contract.

Wigginton has played 12 seasons in the majors.
