Marlins’ lineup adjusted in effort to jump-start team

SAN FRANCISCO — Not much has changed for the Miami Marlins record-wise since Opening Day a little more than a month ago.

They began with the same number of wins and losses (0-0). They currently have two fewer wins than losses (15-17).

But when it comes to the starting lineup, Marlins manager Mike Redmond is offering up quite a different look these days.

The season began with first baseman Michael Morse hitting cleanup and center fielder Marcell Ozuna batting sixth. They’ve since flip-flopped, with Ozuna taking a liking to the spot behind slugging right fielder Giancarlo Stanton.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia was the Opening Day catcher. He has since been waived, with J.T. Realmuto seizing control of the spot.

And Sunday, Redmond made one other significant move official. With third baseman Martin Prado having made a successful transition from fifth to second while left fielder Christian Yelich was injured, Redmond announced that Yelich will be moved to Prado’s old No. 5 spot in the club’s new preferred order.

Redmond said the move was made for two reasons.

First off, Prado has reached base safely at least one in 18 of his last 19 games, an important achievement when you have Stanton batting next.

And Redmond believes Yelich has the potential to be a run-producer as a left-handed hitting slotted amid a bunch of righties — Stanton, Ozuna and Morse.

Yelich had a single, a walk and two stolen bases in his new home Sunday.
