Marlins add pitching, bench coaches to new staff

The Miami Marlins announced the hiring Friday of Chuck Hernandez as pitching coach and Rob Leary as bench coach.

Hernandez joins new manager Mike Redmond’s staff after two seasons at the University of South Florida, where he was an assistant coach. Hernandez previously was a pitching coach for the Tampa Bay Rays (2004-05), Detroit Tigers (2006-08), Angels and New York Yankees during a 31-year professional career.

Leary returns to the Marlins after serving as a minor-league field coordinator with the Cleveland Indians this past year. He was with the Marlins from 1995 to 2001 as catching coordinator, minor-league field coordinator and major-league advance scout. Leary also worked for the Boston Red Sox in 2010-11.
