Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota and Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon are two of the five finalists for college football’s Walter Camp player of the year award.
Mariota and Gordon were joined Wednesday on the list by Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper, Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright III and TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin.
Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, who won the award last year, was not among the finalists.
The Camp award winner will be announced Dec. 11. FBS coaches and sports information directors do the voting.
Mariota, a semifinalist for the Camp award last year, is considered the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy next week. The Heisman finalists will be announced Dec. 8.
