The Seahawks placed kicker Steven Hauschka on injured reserve with a calf strain that limited him at Washington in the wild-card playoff victory last week.
Veteran Ryan Longwell was signed Tuesday, at the time as an insurance policy, and is expected to handle placement kicks at Atlanta.
Coach Pete Carroll said Monday that Hauschka was improved.
Longwell has been out of the NFL since he was released by the Vikings in May. The 38-year-old is a Seattle native. He is the all-time leading scorer in Packers history and played for the Packers from 1997-2005 before joining the Vikings in free agency.
