Jon Lester will be the starter for the Boston Red Sox on Opening Day.
The left-hander is penciled in to face C.C. Sabathia and the New York Yankees on April 1, the Providence Journal reported Wednesday.
Clay Buchholz and Ryan Dempster are projected to follow Lester to mound for Boston’s second and third games in its season-opening series against the Yankees, according to the Journal. Felix Doubrout and John Lackey will round out the Red Sox rotation and pitch in the next series against Toronto.
Lester has posted a 0.90 ERA in 20 innings this spring after struggling to a 9-14 record with a 3.77 ERA last year.
Fantasy Update: Lester is a big-time candidate for a bounce back season after a rough 2012. Lester has looked sharp this spring and will be Boston’s top pitcher. The addition of David Ross should also help Lester control opposing teams running games even more. Lester has a good pickoff move and Ross is known as a great defensive catcher.
