Week 2 … U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish “Catch of the Week” for Games of Sept. 6
Arizona State travelled across the country, undefeated, nationally ranked, favored by a touchdown over Mississippi State, favorite to win the Big 12 title after having played in the College Football Playoff last season.
The Bulldogs waited, not even getting a vote in the national polls, having only two victories last season, picked in last place in 2025 Southeastern Conference preseason voting, given virtually no chance to win over Arizona State.
After unexpectedly racing to a 17-0 lead, State had allowed the Sun Devils to roar back for a 20-17 lead with just over a minute left in the game. It was time for two Bulldog seniors to save the day.
Senior wide receiver Brenen Thompson broke free across the middle, pulled in a perfect throw from senior quarterback Blake Shapen and outraced Sun Devil defenders untouched into the end zone. The 58-yard pass-and-run and the following extra point kick by Kyle Ferrie, gave the Bulldogs a 24-20 upset win.
Thompson’s touchdown reception has been chosen as the U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish “Catch of the Week.”
The winning catch was one of six receptions for Thompson, totaling 133 yards and two touchdown catches.
Shapen completed 19 of 32 passes for 279 yards, three touchdowns and n interceptions.
Remember … for the tailgate tent or the pre-game party, U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish is always “the winning catch.”
The Catfish Institute, or TCI, was formed in 1986 by catfish farmers and feed manufacturers to raise consumer awareness of the positive qualities of U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish. Since its formation, U.S. per capita consumption has more than doubled.
