Rookie running back Eddie Lacy missed Friday’s practice with the Green Bay Packers and won’t play Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Lacy attended practice all week but wasn’t a participant as he went through the recovery process from the head injury he sustained early in last Sunday’s win over Washington.

Head coach Mike McCarthy said after practice Thursday the rookie starter took another step with completing the league-mandated protocol in his recovery and that he has been given “a good opportunity” by the team’s medical staff to be cleared by the weekend.

However, McCarthy stressed that Lacy would have to practice Friday in order to have a shot to play Sunday at Cincinnati, and he was unable to take the field.

James Starks already has been named the starter at halfback, but the Packers could be forced to make a roster move.

Fullback John Kuhn worked out on the sideline on the stationary bike and he remains questionable for the Week 3 game.

Rookie Johnathan Franklin figures to have a role in the gameplan for the first time.
