New York Knicks forward Rasheed Wallace will undergo surgery on his broken foot that likely will sideline him for the remainder of the regular season.
X-rays discovered that Wallace has a broken fifth metatarsal in his left foot, which had kept him off the court since Dec. 15. The Knicks had listed his status as day to day for the past two months.
Wallace’s expected recovery time is eight weeks, which would extend through the end of the regular season. Depending on his recovery, the 38-year-old veteran could be back for the first round of the playoffs in April.
Wallace ended his retirement this season to play for the Knicks, but the injury has limited his time on the court. In 20 games off the bench, he has contributed 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
With Wallace out, the Knicks are hopeful that injured big man Marcus Camby (foot) is close to returning.
