Charlotte Bobcats forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was released from a Houston hospital Sunday after spending the night there due to a concussion, according to the Charlotte Observer.
The timetable for Kidd-Gilchrist’s return to action is uncertain, as he’ll need to pass league protocols related to concussions.
“I’m just relieved he’s not in the hospital today — that’s the key point. He’s young and he’ll heal up nicely,” Bobcats coach Mike Dunlap told the Observer after the team’s Sunday practice.
Kidd-Gilchrist, 19, was hurt with 10:42 left in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game against the Houston Rockets when he collided with teammate Jeffery Taylor. Kidd-Gilchrist lay motionless before being immobilized and subsequently transported via gurney.
Kidd-Gilchrist, who was alert and had movement in all extremities before leaving the Toyota Center, underwent precautionary X-rays and a CT scan, all of which were negative for head and neck injuries aside from the concussion.
The second overall pick in last year’s NBA Draft out of Kentucky, Kidd-Gilchrist is averaging 9.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1 block per game in his rookie season.
The Bobcats (11-35) play the Heat in Miami on Monday, then the Cavaliers in Cleveland on Wednesday before returning home to face the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday.
