Undefeated Kansas State appears to have lost a linebacker and inspirational leader for an indefinite period, possibly for the season, with a knee injury.
Tre Walker left Saturday’s win over Texas Tech with assistance and said this week on Twitter that he’s walking with crutches.
Coach Bill Snyder wouldn’t discuss Walker’s status Tuesday during his weekly news conference, but Walker’s teammates indicated that the right knee injury could be season-ending.
Wide receiver Curry Sexton said there was “no doubts that you’ll see Tre back out there next August,” according to The Mercury of Manhattan, Kan.
Walker, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound junior, has made 19 tackles this season, including three for losses, but has served as one of the leaders for a team that’s 8-0 and ranked second in the BCS standings.
He has 118 career tackles and an interception.
“He’s the kind of guy who really needs to be out on the field, for his sake,” fullback Braden Wilson said. “With us out there, giving it everything we have, that’s going to be mean a lot to him, even though he can’t be out there. He’ll be there in spirit with us. It’s a sad deal, but as always, we just need to keep on moving.”
