The New York waived former first-round outside linebacker Quinton Coples on Monday.

The 6-foot-6, 290-pound Coples, in his fourth season, appeared in 10 games while making two starts. He had just eight tackles and one fumble recovery this season.

After racking up 24 sacks and 40.5 tackles for loss at the University of North Carolina, the Jets took Coples with the No. 16 overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The 25-year-old Coples, who played both defensive end and outside linebacker early in his career, recorded 16.5 sacks in his first three seasons, including a career-high 6.5 in 2014.

Under head coach Todd Bowles and defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers, the Jets have run a 3-4 system. Against the Houston Texans in Sunday’s 24-17 loss, the Jets started Calvin Pace and Leger Douzable at outside linebacker.
