New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter received some good news Thursday when doctors cleared him to return to full baseball activities, according to reports.
Jeter, who suffered a broken ankle in the playoffs last October, will be able to run at full speed as he works his way back with a target date of mid-July for his return to the Yankees. He has been restricted to fielding ground balls hit at him and playing catch.
Dr. Robert Anderson examined Jeter, 38, in Charlotte, N.C., the New York Daily News reported. Anderson performed the surgery in October on Jeter’s left ankle and then recommended that he stop his rehab after a crack was found in the ankle in April.
The 13-time All-Star has 3,304 career hits. Last season, he batted .316 with a major league-leading 216 hits.
