Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been charged with battery after allegedly hitting a security guard at a St. Augustine, Fla. resort over the weekend, according to a TMZ report.

Citing a police report, TMZ said Jones-Drew is charged with intentionally striking the security guard on the guard’s left cheek with a closed fist, knocking him out.

At a May 26 event held at the Conch House restaurant, security told a friend of Jones-Drew to stop touching a young female, witnesses told police, according to TMZ. The friend then “slapped” a security guard in the chest, prompting a fight. Jones-Drew intervened when a security guard reportedly put his friend in a headlock.

The security guard was hospitalized after the attack. Doctors found a bone bruise, but no broken bones.

TMZ reached out to Jones-Drew, but hadn’t received a response.

Injuries limited the 28-year-old Drew to six games last season, his seventh in the NFL. He rushed for 414 yards on 86 carries, with one touchdown, all career lows.
