The Cleveland Indians re-signed pitchers Daisuke Matsuzaka and Matt Capps to minor-league deals, the team announced Tuesday.
The Indians had released the duo recently to avoid paying a $100,000 retention bonuses. The two righties each has major-league service time, but will likely head to Triple-A Columbus.
Matsuzaka made 11 starts last year in his final season for the Boston Red Sox, but posted a 8.28 ERA in 45 2/3 innings. He is 50-37 for his career, including an 18-3 mark in 2008.
Capps spent the previous 2 1/2 seasons with the Minnesota Twins. He worked only 29 1/3 innings last season, but recorded 14 saves.
