It appears Aubrey Huff is staying retired, not signing with the New York Yankees.
Huff’s name was raised when Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira suffered a sprained wrist that will sideline him 8-10 weeks. But the 36-year-old Huff told SFGate.com on Thursday, “I’m pretty much retired.”
He has battled injuries and depression the past two years and seems at peace in retirement after 13 years in the majors and two World Series titles in San Francisco over the past three seasons.
“I have no regrets,” he said. “I love it. I’m having a great time with my wife and kids. I don’t even have an itch to pick up a baseball bat. I wondered if I’d feel that desire when everybody reported to spring training, but I didn’t.”
