The Atlanta Hawks signed veteran forward Kris Humphries on Tuesday after he cleared waivers.
Humphries had his contract bought out on Sunday by the Phoenix Suns. There was a 48-hour waiting period before he could sign and join the Hawks for Tuesday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors.
March 1 was the NBA’s playoff waiver eligibility deadline.
Terms of the new contract agreement were not disclosed by the Hawks, but Humphries has a $4.6 million salary this season and the Hawks will be responsible for $1.1 million of it the rest of this season.
“As we explored opportunities to add to our team after the trade deadline, we felt it was important to prioritize experience and versatility,” Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. “Kris is a versatile veteran with playoff experience who fits well with our group and within our system. We are fortunate to have Kris join our team and would like to welcome him to the Hawks family.”
Humphries has averaged 6.9 points and 5.6 rebounds in 723 career games with Utah, Toronto, Dallas, Brooklyn, Boston, Washington and Phoenix.
The 31-year-old Humphries started this season with the Wizards but was part of the deal that included forward Markieff Morris going to Washington from Phoenix at the NBA trade deadline.
In 32 games this season, Humphries is averaging 6.5 points and 4.6 rebounds.
