New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson voiced displeasure Tuesday when pitcher Matt Harvey did not show up for the start of a mandatory workout.

“You have to ask Matt,” Alderson said when pressed for Harvey’s whereabouts at the start of the workout.

Harvey, the right-handed starter who had a late-season rift with the team over limiting his innings to preserve his surgically repaired throwing arm, showed up an hour later. He said he was stuck in traffic and claimed he apologized to teammates for not being there.

“Never happened before and unfortunately it happened kind of a bad time and a mandatory time. Truly I just screwed up,” said Harvey.

Team captain David Wright said he was unsure where Harvey was or why he was absent. He said the players who were present “had a great workout.”
