Pitcher Matt Harrison has agreed to a five-year, $55 million deal with the Texas Rangers, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday.
The left-handed Harrison, 27, is scheduled to make $13 million over the first two years combined, but he will make $13 million in each of the final three seasons, according to ESPNDallas.com. There is a $13.25 million option for 2018, and that could increase by $2 million if he attains all the incentive bonuses. A $2 million buyout option also is exists, and Harrison can vest the option if he pitches 200 or more innings in each of the final three years of the contract.
Harrison, 27, was 18-11 with a 3.26 earned-run average in 2012, when he was named to the American League All-Star team.
He passed on an invitation to the World Baseball Classic so he would be rested for the upcoming season.
Harrison is expected to be the No. 2 pitcher in Texas’ rotation, behind Yu Darvish.
