Hall inductees to represent Astros, Red Sox, Braves


The cap choices are all in for the 2015 Baseball Hall of Fame inductees.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced Thursday that Craig Biggio’s plaque will show him wearing a Houston Astros hat, Pedro Martinez has chosen the Boston Red Sox and John Smoltz will go with the Atlanta Braves.

Last week, Randy Johnson announced that he chose to represent the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The induction ceremony is set for July 26 in Cooperstown, N.Y.

—The Major League Baseball season will begin with ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” at 8 p.m. ET on April 5 when the Chicago Cubs face the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field on ESPN2.

The traditional opening day is set for April 6 around the league with 14 games, including four televised by ESPN. A full schedule of 15 games will be played for the first time in 2015 on April 8.

Other highlights on the 2015 MLB schedule include a series between 2014 National League Championship Series opponents St. Louis and San Francisco at Busch Stadium starting Aug. 17. American League Championship Series playoff opponents Kansas City and Baltimore meet for a four-game series at Kauffman Stadium starting Aug. 24.

Jackie Robinson Day will be observed April 15 and Roberto Clemente Day on Sept. 16 throughout both leagues. The 2015 All-Star Game will be played July 14 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The regular-season is scheduled to end Oct. 4.

—Right-hander Henry Rodriguez signed a minor-league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to a CBSSports.com report on Thursday.

The hard-throwing Rodriguez last pitched in the major leagues for the Miami Marlins in 2014.

The 28-year-old Rodriguez has 151 strikeouts in 150 1/3 career innings and has limited opponents to a .220 batting average and .296 slugging percentage, but wildness has been a problem throughout his career. He has walked 107 batters and hit seven with pitches.
