Forward Jeff Green exercised his $9.2 million player option for next season with the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday.
Acquired from the Boston Celtics in a trade during the 2014-15 season, Green played in 78 regular-season games for both teams and averaged 15.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
In 45 games including 37 starts with the Grizzlies after the Jan. 12 trade that involved three teams, Green averaged 13.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists and shot a team-leading 39.8 percent on 3-pointers.
During the playoffs, Green wasn’t as effective, averaging 8.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 11 games (two starts) and shooting just 22 percent from 3-point range.
The 28-year-old Green was the fifth overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by Boston and has career averages of 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 556 games for the Celtics, Grizzlies and Seattle SuperSonics/Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Grizzlies could have freed up about $8.5 million in camp space if Green had decided to opt out of his contract.
