Guard Daniel Gibson, who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, turned himself into police after being charged with second degree assault and battery, according to WDSU-TV in New Orleans.
Gibson, who is now a free agent, surrendered at the New Orleans Police Department on Monday.
WDSU reported that the incident occurred during the Essence Festival earlier this month. Details of the incident were not available.
—The Milwaukee Bucks agreed to a two-year deal with free agent guard Gary Neal.
Neal opted to sign with Milwaukee over the Atlanta Hawks.
Neal became an unrestricted free agent when San Antonio withdrew its qualifying offer to Neal earlier this month.
—The Atlanta Hawks were awarded forward/center Gustavo Ayon on a waiver claim, the team announced.
Ayon, 28, averaged 3.7 points on 55.1 percent shooting, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 13.4 minutes over 55 games with the Orlando Magic and Milwaukee Bucks last season.
—The Houston Rockets signed unrestricted free agent center Marcus Camby, the team announced.
Camby reached agreement with the Rockets on a one-year contract Sunday for the veteran minimum $1.4 million, according to the Houston Chronicle.
—The Los Angeles Lakers hired Kurt Rambis and Johnny Davis as assistant coaches, the team announced.
They join the Lakers coaching staff headed by Mike D’Antoni. The staff also includes Dan D’Antoni, Mark Madsen and Larry Lewis.
—- The Dallas Mavericks announced they signed first-round draft pick Shane Larkin.
Larkin, a point guard from the University of Miami, was the 18th overall selection in the draft.
Larkin did not participate with the Mavericks at the Las Vegas Summer League after injuring his ankle in practice. Larkin had ankle surgery on July 16 and is expected to return in about three months.
