Giants sign Cuban OF Carbonell


The San Francisco Giants signed Cuban outfielder Daniel Carbonell to a four-year contract, the team announced Monday.

Carbonell will make a guaranteed $3.5 million and he can earn another $3.5 million in performance bonuses, according to a MLB.com.

Carbonell has experience at all three outfield spots, playing center field primarily. He is currently residing in Merida, Mexico and will report to Arizona once he has a work visa.

The 23-year-old played for Camaguey in the Cuban Serie Nacional for four years, batting .287 (163-for-568) with 119 runs scored, 28 doubles, four triples, nine home runs and 70 RBIs in 190 games.

The 6-foot-3, 196-pound outfielder hit .298 (59-for-198) with 40 runs scored, 13 doubles, five homers and 28 RBIs in 62 games in his last season from 2012-13.
