San Francisco catcher Buster Posey and Detroit third baseman Miguel Cabrera and first baseman Prince Fielder were three World Series participants who were awarded Silver Slugger awards, which were announced Thursday night.
The Silver Slugger annually goes to the best offensive player at each position in each league. The award is selected by a vote of managers and coaches.
The National League team was led by Posey, who helped the Giants win their second World Series title in three years last month and already has earned the Comeback Player of the Year award. He was joined by Washington’s first baseman Adam LaRoche, shortstop Ian Desmond and pitcher Steven Strasburg; Arizona second baseman Aaron Hill; and outfielders Ryan Braun of Milwaukee, Jay Bruce of Cincinnati, and Andrew McCutchen of Pittsburgh.
Besides Fielder and Cabrera — who won baseball’s first Triple Crown since 1967 — the American League team featured two Yankees and a rookie. New York second baseman Robinson Canoe and shortstop Derek Jeter were joined by Kansas City designated hitter Billy Butler, Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski, outfielders Josh Hamilton of Texas, rookie Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels and Josh Willingham of Minnesota.
