Giants place Aoki on concussion list

SAN FRANCISCO — After having to take left fielder Nori Aoki out of the game the day before because he had experienced dizziness, San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy got good news Thursday when told his leadoff hitter should be fine in a day or two.

But that’s what Bochy was told Monday as well, a day after Aoki had gotten hit in the head by a Jake Arrieta pitch in Chicago.

So this time, the Giants erred on the side of being conservative, placing Aoki on the seven-day concussion disabled list.

That means Bochy, already without center fielder Angel Pagan, will have few outfield options for his team’s four-game series against the Washington Nationals that began Thursday and three-gamer at St. Louis that runs through next Wednesday.

The Giants have called up outfielders Juan Perez and Ryan Lollis in the past three days, but Bochy doesn’t appear to be in a hurry to use either.

Justin Maxwell got the call ahead of Perez when Aoki needed a replacement in the fifth inning Wednesday, and was back out there as the starter Thursday when both Perez and Lollis were options.

Perez finally got his first at-bat since his promotion Tuesday, flying out as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning of Thursday’s 3-1 win over the Washington Nationals.

Lollis did not play in the game.
