The San Francisco Giants avoided arbitration with third baseman Casey McGehee, signing him to a one-year, $4.8 million contract on Thursday.
The 32-year-old McGehee had requested $5.4 million and the Giants countered with $4 million when arbitration figures were exchanged.
McGehee is penciled in to replace the departed Pablo Sandoval at third base in 2015.
Last season with the Miami Marlins, McGehee batted .287 with four home runs and 76 RBIs in 160 games.
McGehee has a career .264 batting average with 65 homers and 357 RBIs with the Marlins, New York Yankees, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs. His best season came in 2010 when he had 23 homers, 104 RBIs and a .285 batting average for the Brewers.
