The New York Giants are confident they will reach an agreement with wide receiver Victor Cruz on a long-term contract before the start of training camp, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported.
There remains a chance that talks will hit a snag and that Cruz will hold out. But that seems unlikely at this point.
“Everybody I’ve spoken to expects that deal to absolutely get done, to a 100 percent degree of certainty, that Victor Cruz will have a new contract by the time the Giants open training camp,” Mortensen said on NFL Live, according ProFootballTalk.com.
Holding out beyond August 6 would erase Cruz’s chance of becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2014.
