New York Mets right-hander Dillon Gee cleared waivers and was sent to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Gee was designated for assignment on June 15, one day after giving up eight runs in 3 2/3 innings against the Atlanta Braves.

Gee has about $3.1 million remaining on his 2015 contract, which might have made some teams think twice about signing him.

Gee could refuse the outright assignment and declare free agency, but then he would forfeit the remaining money he is owed.
