Florida coach Will Muschamp has ended the quarterback controversy in Gainesville, at least for one week. It’ll be Jeff Driskel’s job until further notice.
“It will be Jeff’s game to play,” said Muschamp on Monday. “I told him, ‘I don’t want you looking over your shoulder, but you have to play well.’”
Muschamp said he is confident in backup Jacoby Brissett but wanted to move forward to give one quarterback the game-time reps it takes to be successful.
Brissett and Driskel, both true sophomores, have been informed the depth chart is subject to change based almost entirely on Driskel’s performance.
His ability to create offense with his legs was a factor in Muschamp opting to name Driskel the starter.
Driskel played the second half in Saturday’s win over Bowling Green and completed 10 of 16 passes for 114 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. He also had 24 yards rushing.
