University of Florida linebacker Jelani Jenkins likely will miss the Gators’ bowl game due to a broken right foot.
Jenkins was hurt Saturday in the Gators’ 37-26 win over Florida State, and he was due to undergo surgery Monday, according to coach Will Muschamp.
“He probably will miss the bowl game. Not certain,” Muschamp told reporters. “He should be fine. It’s a four- to six-week recovery, and he’ll be fine.”
Jenkins, a redshirt junior, has one interception and two sacks this season. According to the Florida Times-Union, Jenkins missed games against Tennessee and Kentucky after breaking a thumb, and he sat out against Vanderbilt due to a hamstring ailment.
True freshman Antonio Morrison is likely to continue filling in for Jenkins. Morrison forced a fumble from Florida State quarterback EJ Manuel on Saturday, leading to a fourth-quarter touchdown.
The Gators (11-1) are awaiting the announcement of their bowl destination. With the winner of the SEC championship game, Alabama or Georgia, likely headed to the BCS national championship game, Florida could be ticketed for the Sugar Bowl.
