Florida and Florida State signed off on an extension of their college football rivalry game through the 2018 season.

The University of Florida announced the agreement Thursday to extend the series through the 2018 season. The defending national champion Seminoles play Florida in the 2014 regular-season finale in December, the last game on the current contract.

Future games are scheduled for Gainesville (2015, 2017) and in Tallahassee in 2016 and 2018.

The series began in 1958 — 58 meetings — and Florida leads the series 34-22-2. Florida State has won three of the last four meetings.

Conference realignment has thrown a wrench in many historical rivalries, including Michigan-Notre Dame (the 42nd and final meeting will be played in prime time in 2014), Nebraska-Missouri (104 meetings, but none since 2010) and Texas A&M-Texas.
