
Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer declined to identify his starting quarterback for this week’s game against Western Michigan.
“I haven’t decided yet,” he said Monday. “Not one has beaten out the other.”
Cardale Jones started in the Buckeyes to a 20-13 victory over Northern Illinois in Columbus on Saturday. But he was replaced by J.T. Barrett during the game.
Jones, who started both College Football Playoff games for Ohio State to lead the Buckeyes to the national championship last season, could move to No. 2 on the depth chart behind Barrett. Jones was 4 for 9 with two interceptions as the Buckeyes dodged an upset bid by NIU.
— Mississippi standout safety Tony Conner will undergo knee surgery on Tuesday and miss at least the next four games.
Conner suffered torn meniscus cartilage in his right knee during Saturday’s victory over Alabama, according to Rebels coach Hugh Freeze.
Conner, a junior, was a preseason All-American and is forecasted to be a first-round NFL pick should he declare for the draft after this season.
—Alabama receiver Robert Foster will undergo shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff and could miss the rest of the season.
That may make things a bit more difficult for Jacob Coker, who is expected to be the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against Louisiana-Monroe, based on what coach Nick Saban said.
“At this point, providing (Coker) does the things he has to do, I think we’ll start him in this game,” Saban said, according to Al.com
Freshman Cooper Bateman started Saturday’s game against Mississippi, although Bateman was replaced by Coker during the game.
–Suspended UCLA cornerback Ishmael Adams won’t face felony charges in connection with his arrest for robbery, according to published reports.
Adams, a junior, is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday when it is expected that misdemeanor charges will be filed. He was arrested in late August on suspicion of felony robbery when it was alleged he stole a cell phone from an Uber driver.
UCLA indefinitely suspended Adams after the arrest.
