Texas is making a change at quarterback as Case McCoy will make his first start of the season in place of injured David Ash in Saturday’s regular-season finale against Kansas State.
Texas coach Mack Brown announced the decision on Monday.
Ash injured his rib in last Thursday’s 20-13 loss to TCU, and McCoy replaced him in that game.
Ash is listed as questionable for the Kansas State game, and might be able to play, but Brown has decided to name McCoy his starter against the Wildcats, who need to win the game to win the Big 12 title and assure themselves a berth in the Fiesta Bowl.
If Ash cannot play, punter Alex King probably would become the Longhorns’ backup quarterback.
—Defensive end Tank Carradine, Florida State’s leading tackler, will miss the Atlantic Coast Conference title game and the Seminoles’ bowl game after tearing an anterior-cruciate ligament in Saturday’s loss to Florida.
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher announced on Monday that Carradine’s season is over. He added that the injury occurred without contact.
Not only does Carradine lead the team in tackles with 80, but he is second on the team in sacks, with 11, and tackles for loss, with 13.
— Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a left wrist injury in Saturday’s loss to UConn, but coach Charlie Strong said Bridgewater will play in Thursday’s game against Rutgers.
–Notre Dame’s 22-13 victory over USC on Saturday to virtually clinch a spot in the BCS title game earned a 10.3 Nielson overnight rating, the best college football overnight this season, according to Sports Business Daily.
The previous high was a 7.0 for CBS’ Alabama-LSU game on Nov. 3.
Notre Dame-USC’s rating topped every ESPN BCS bowl game overnights from last season, except for the national title game between Alabama and LSU, which drew a 13.8.
The Notre Dame-USC game rated higher than any ESPN/ABC regular-season game since the 2006 Michigan-Ohio St. matchup, which had an 11.5 overnight.
CBS’ primetime matchup between Alabama and LSU last year, however, got an 11.9 overnight rating.
