The Atlanta Falcons released starting right tackle Tyson Clabo, leaving another hole on their offensive line.
The move was designated as a post-June 1 release in order to save the Falcons room under the 2013 salary cap.
Clabo joined the organization in 2005 when he signed with the Falcons’ practice squad, and emerged as one of the better run-blocking right tackles in the NFL. He has started all 101 games he appeared in for Atlanta, including all 16 regular-season games each of the past five seasons.
“Unfortunately, we had to make another difficult decision regarding our roster today,” said Falcons head coach Mike Smith. “Tyson was a valuable contributor to our football team during his time here and we appreciate everything he did for this team and in the community.”
The Falcons also must replace center Todd McClure, who retired after 14 seasons. Although 2012 second-round pick Peter Konz was brought in to be the long-term replacement, moving him to the middle then means both starting spots on the right side of the line must be filled.
Garrett Reynolds is returning from back surgery and is one candidate at right guard.
Second-year player Lamar Holmes is the only other tackle listed on the Falcons’ current roster outside of starting left tackle Sam Baker.
