Atlanta Falcons defensive end John Abraham had to sit out much of Sunday’s 30-38 victory over Seattle after aggravating his sprained left ankle, but he reportedly said afterward that he will play in the NFC championship game on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
“Oh, yeah, you know me, you can’t keep me out of that game,” Abraham told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We’re going to treat the (heck) out of it.”
Abraham had 10 sacks this season, and his absence on Sunday may have helped Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson extend plays and gain yardage on scrambles.
Abraham’s pass rush will be needed when the Falcons face another mobile quarterback in the 49ers’ Colin Kaepernick.
His availability will be determined during practice this week.
