Milwaukee Bucks guard Monta Ellis is expected to reject his $11 million option for next season and become a free agent, the Boston Globe reported Monday.
Ellis is averaging 18.4 points a game but barely shooting 40 percent this season.
If Ellis were to opt out, he would likely make less money next season but benefit in the long term with a more lucrative multiyear deal with another team.
The Bucks could have a new starting backcourt next season as point guard Brandon Jennings is set to be a restricted free agent this summer. However, the Bucks could match any offer Jennings gets and keep him.
Milwaukee is 26-25 and sitting at the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
