Eagles left defensive end Jason Babin could miss most of training camp with a partially torn muscle in his left calf.
An MRI exam revealed Babin has a second-degree strain, which occurred Saturday during a one-on-one pass-rushing drill against right tackle Todd Herremans.
Babin was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2011 with 18 sacks and three forced fumbles after re-joining the Eagles as a free agent. He has 30.5 sacks in his past 32 games and has been mostly healthy since 2009, when he played in only nine games with the Chiefs. Babin battled injuries in two previous seasons with the Seahawks. He was a first-round pick of the Texans in 2004.
The initial diagnosis given by coach Andy Reid was a strained calf and he estimated Babin would miss about a week of practice.
Babin’s MRI had been delayed because he swallowed a penny-sized thermometer.
Former first-round pick Brandon Graham is taking most of the snaps at left end. The Eagles have depth at defensive end with Babin, Trent Cole, Graham and 2012 second-round pick Vinny Curry. Curry had 26 career sacks at Marshall.
