The Miami Dolphins will sign former Houston Texans defensive tackle Earl Mitchell to a four-year, $16 million contract, according to multiple reports Wednesday.
Mitchell is viewed as a replacement in Miami for free-agent defensive tackle Paul Soliai, who was reported to receive a five-year, $33 million contract from the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday after the NFL’s free agency period opened.
The 26-year-old Mitchell, who is considered a good run-stopper, logged 48 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks last season for the Texans. He started 17 games the past two seasons for Houston, including 14 in 2013.
In four seasons with the Texans, Mitchell had 81 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks.
