Dolphins’ workplace report expected next week

The findings of an investigation into wokrplace misconduct surrounding the Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin situation with the Miami Dolphins will not be available until next week.

Attorney Ted Wells was hired by the NFL on Nov. 6 to conduct an independent probe within the Dolphins’ organization. He met with Martin twice, the final time on Dec. 5, and spoke with Incognito and team officials in November.

“The news media information that Ted Wells’ report would be issued to the NFL and public on Thursday of this week was incorrect,” his firm, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, said in a statement released Wednesday.

“Mr. Wells informed the NFL before the Super Bowl that he expected his report to be completed and issued either late next week or early the following week. Mr. Wells continues to be in full control of the timing of the report.”

Martin, an offensive tackle, left the team on Oct. 28 to pursue treatment for undisclosed mental health issues and later accused Incognito, also an offensive lineman, of abuse. Incognito was subsequently suspensed from the team for the remainder of the 2013 season.

The NFL Players Association conducted its own investigation that is close to completion, according to USA Today. DeMaurice Smith, executive director of the NFLPA, said Martin would not submit to an interview.

More than 1,000 text messages between Martin and Incognito were published last week that shed more insight into the teammates’ relationship.
