Bench coach Trey Hillman was fired by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who also parted with advanced scout Wade Tayler and athletic trainer Sue Falsone as the implied result of organization meetings over the past two days.
Hillman was manager Don Mattingly’s bench coach for the past three seasons. While Mattingly has been criticized for strategic moves.
Mattingly said Monday that he didn’t want to be where he wasn’t wanted, and the Dodgers could be sending the signal that Mattingly is not their man.
His $1.4 million contract option for 2014 is guaranteed based on language in his deal that triggered the ’14 season if the Dodgers reached the NLCS.
