Dodgers, Cuban RHP Sierra finalize $30M deal

LADodgersLogoThe Los Angeles Dodgers signed Cuban right-hander Yaisel Sierra on Sunday, finalizing a six-year, $30 million contract.

Sierra, 24, will get a $6 million signing bonus after he agreed to the deal in mid-January. He will report to camp in Phoenix once his visa issues are resolved.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sierra is expected to be in camp either Monday or Tuesday.

“I’ve seen video, I like his body, but I haven’t seen a whole lot,” Roberts said Sunday. “He has an opportunity to make an impact. You still have to see the eye test and see how he adapts as he comes over, but I’m excited.”

Sierra was granted free agency by Major League Baseball in late December.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers placed right-handed pitcher Frankie Montas on the 60-day disabled list.

Montas, acquired in the offseason from the Chicago White Sox, underwent surgery last week to remove an injured rib. He is expected to miss 2-4 months.
