The Arizona Diamondbacks reached agreement with outfielder Michael Bourn on a minor league contract Tuesday.
The major league veteran was assigned to Duoble-A Mobile by the Diamondbacks. A day earlier, Bourn was released from a minor league contract by the Toronto Blue Jays.
In 41 plate appearances with the Blue Jays’ Class A minor league team this season, Bourn was batting .257 with one stolen base.
The 33-year-old Bourn split time with the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians last season. In a combined 141 games, he batted .238 with 30 RBIs and 17 stolen bases.
The Braves and Indians are still paying the remainder of Bourn’s salary this season, which is $14 million.
A former All-Star, Bourn has a career .266 batting average with 326 stolen bases for the Braves, Indians, Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros.
