Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is remaining with the New York Giants and has agreed to a one-year deal with the team.
ESPN reported the contract could be worth $10.5 million.
Pierre-Paul turned down overtures from the Arizona Cardinals to remain with the Giants.
Pierre-Paul, 27, played in just eight games in 2015 after a July 4 fireworks incident badly damaged his right hand. Pierre-Paul lost his right index finger and suffered serious injuries to other fingers, including his thumb.
He recently underwent offseason surgery on his right middle finger, expressing hope the procedure will allow him to bend the finger better.
Pierre-Paul’s right hand was heavily bandaged upon his return to action and he was not able to grip. He recorded only one sack and 26 tackles.
Pierre-Paul was the Giants’ first-round pick (15th overall) in 2010 out of South Florida. He had a career-high 16.5 sacks in 2011, his second season. He had 12.5 sacks in 2014, his last season before the injury.
