Cruz among players who may decline offers

Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz is one of 13 veterans expected to reject one-year, $14.1 million qualifying offers Monday.

The players, who are eligible for free agency, were made the offers last week and have until 5 p.m. ET to accept or reject them.

If a player declines the qualifying offer and signs elsewhere, the team receives a supplemental first round draft pick as compensation, while the team signing the player is forced to forfeit a high draft pick.

Cruz served a 50-game suspension from Major League Baseball for violating the league’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The ban stemmed from the league’s investigation of South Florida anti-aging clinic Biogenesis.

The following are the veterans who were made a qualifying offer, with their 2013 stats:

— St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran batted .296 with 24 home runs and 84 RBIs.

— New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano batted .314 with 27 home runs and 107 RBIs.

— Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz batted .269 with 27 home runs and 76 RBIs.

— Cincinnati Reds outfielder Shin-Soo Choo batted .285 with 21 home runs and 54 RBIs.

— Boston Red Sox shortstop Stephen Drew batted .253 with 13 home runs and 67 RBIs.

— Boston Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury batted .298 with nine home runs and 53 RBIs.

— New York Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson batted .229 with seven home runs and 15 RBIs.

— Cleveland Indians pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez went 13-9 with a 3.30 ERA.

— New York Yankees pitcher Hiroki Kuroda went 11-13 with a 3.31 ERA.

— Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann batted .256 with 20 home runs and 57 RBIs.

— Seattle Mariners designated hitter Kendrys Morales batted .277 with 23 home runs and 80 RBIs.

— Boston Red Sox first baseman/catcher Mike Napoli batted .259 with 23 home runs and 92 RBIs.

— Kansas City Royals pitcher Ervin Santana went 9-10 with a 3.24 ERA.
