LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers placed outfielder Carl Crawford on the disabled list Tuesday with a strained oblique muscle in his right side.
Crawford is the fourth player the Dodgers have sent to the DL in the past five days, joining outfielder Yasiel Puig (hamstring) and right-handers Joel Peralta (neck strain) and Brandon McCarthy (torn ligament in his pitching elbow), who is out for the year.
“I like our guys, no matter what’s been happening,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. “We’re no different than anybody else. Everybody has injuries. If they don’t have them now, they’re going to have them.
“I know there’s been a flurry of DL moves here lately but I still feel like the club we put out there every night being able to score runs and give us a chance to win.”
Crawford suffered his injury while hitting a triple in the second inning of Monday’s game. He said an MRI “showed I tore it (an oblique muscle) pretty good.”
Crawford received a cortisone injection but was still in pain Tuesday.
After playing at least 150 games in six of eight seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, Crawford has been plagued by injuries in the years since. He has played more than 105 games in just one of the previous three seasons.
“I know it’s like a broken record but there’s no way I could have avoided it,” Crawford said. “It keeps happening. My plan was to play a full season.”
The Dodgers recalled utilityman Enrique Hernandez from Triple-A Oklahoma City to replace Crawford on the active roster.
