Colts sign Canadian LB Muamba

Looking north of the border for talent, the Indianapolis Colts signed former Canadian Football League linebacker Henoc Muamba on Thursday.

Muamba, 24, was a CFL All-Star last season for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and he was chosen the best player in the Eastern Division. He finished second in the league with 106 tackles.

The top overall pick in the 2011 CFL Draft, Muamba spent three seasons in Winnipeg, compiling 171 tackles, 53 special teams stops, four sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery that he returned for a touchdown.

In 2012, Muamba twice was the CFL’s Canadian Player of the Week.

A native of Zaire, Muamba attended high school in Mississauga, Ontario, then played for St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia.

Muamba still ranks as St. Francis Xavier’s all-time leader in tackles (149.5), and he was a three-time All-Canadian. In 2010, he was selected the country’s top defensive player.
