Indianpolis Colts owner Jim Irsay spent the night in jail after he was arrested by Carmel Police early Monday morning on preliminary drunken-driving charges and possession of a controlled substance, the police department told the Indianapolis Star.

Irsay’s bond was set at $22,500, Bryant Orem of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, told the star.

Irsay would be subject to the NFL’s personal conduct policy if convicted. Based on recent comments lashing out against drunk driving and Irsay’s position as a vocal and visible franchise leader, commissioner Roger Goodell would likely act swiftly and harshly if the charges stand up in court.

Irsay said publicly he hasn’t had a drink in more than a decade.

Police said Monday details of the arrest would be made available later this morning.
